DESCRIPTION

The place inside the venue, the building inside the building.

For the 20th anniversary of the Bogotá International Art Fair we have put in scene minimal structures with symbolic and functional autonomy, which together form an alphabet. Fabrics serving as shelter, blocks, tunnels, flags: each item folds and unfolds themselves, welcoming bodies, plants, and gestures. They serve as potential meeting points for shadows, reflections, and silhouettes.

To do so, we have staged fragments, gestures, and materials that help us understand the questions that challenge us. Sometimes sprouting from the front, like swarms, and organizing —without forcing— a set of projects that share the same concern, the same sense of urgency.

Works of art bear witness to their times: they record the circumstances and the spiritual and ideological tensions of an era.

Architecture —as a practice and as a way of thinking— is always a located reflection , a relationship between bodies, matter and sense. It is material consciousness.
This project revolves around the collective, the massive, and the intergenerational claim. Through these structures we wonder, how many lives can an object have? What else can it serve for? How many other uses, gestures, and encounters can it accommodate?

It is a matter of conceiving architecture as an open platform, where form never closes off meaning.

It is impossible to tell this project for the Bogotá International Art Fair without acknowledging the work of the great Yemail Architecture team: Natalia Carrero in coordination; Felipe Zorro and Santiago Baquero in the development; The Órbital, in the lighting; Manuel Gutierrez in the production; Elisa Triana in landscape; and the assembly work by Hernan and Camilo Loiza. We created the flag design in collaboration with Tangrama.
