DESCRIPTION

Recall that in the material world there is no difference between the passing and the permanent, and that sometimes pacts with the time are a matter inpredecible. We had already learned that lesson in 2007 at Sisga, with the discovery of a stack of fabric selvages that gave rise to the casa Mariposa (Butterfly House).

The fate of this second Punta Casitas cabin is intertwined with that of the first. They are like Siamese twins with contrasting personalities. an ongoing dialogue between two sides of the same coin. One is expressive, the other discreet; one opens outward to the world, while the other is more intimate. It all began with the simple premise of laying a foundation, perhaps for a storage shed, while anticipating that "bones and skin" might eventually take shape around it. The rest was a matter of letting go, trusting the process, and turning the house into a collaborative collage of a six-handed effort blending the ideas of Edgar, the skilled craftsmen, and ourselves.

These images tell us that architecture is also landscape. That the roof is shelter, the soil is root, and the materials are memory. That we conspire with the topography to create three levels that seem like one.

There are parts that are stacked atop a stone base that serves as storage. There is a double height space facing the short ends, along with a mezzanine converted into a bedroom. covered terrace overlooks the pine canopies, while a vestibule extends living space into the area between this structure and the other shelter, turning the gap between them into an open-air salon.

All of this was powered by a desire to explore the available materials firsthand, to build with robust blocks of various woods finished in a dark varnish, to experiment with textile walls clad in rice husks, or to transform windows into spaces.
