DESCRIPTION

A Series of Libraries as Buildings

Homes are small cities. If we allow ourselves to explore the possibilities of this metaphor, we might say that corridors replace streets, the dining room becomes the office, and the entrance hall takes on the role of public space. Within this domestic world, furniture and objects form a narrative of ourselves; they are also constructions that define the spaces in which everyday life takes place.

Among them, libraries occupy a singular place. More than simple containers for books, they are structures capable of making visible the traces of those who inhabit them. In the way books, objects, collections, and memories are arranged, a particular way of understanding the world—and of constructing identity—begins to emerge.

Seen as empty structures, libraries are scaled reproductions of architecture itself. They are buildings made of repeated planes, where the vessels of our thoughts and memories accumulate over time, forming an appealing monument to the endless accumulation of experiences, interests, and aspirations. By looking closely through their shelves, we can quickly construct a map of the inclinations, passions, and obsessions that have accompanied their inhabitants throughout their lives.

This series brings together a family of architectures for books developed across different domestic, cultural, and academic contexts. Some appear as lightweight structures attached to a house; others operate as spatial divisions, exhibition devices, or infrastructures for archives and collections.
