DESCRIPTION

An operations control room is the operational brain of a production process, often viewed more as a machine than as a piece of architecture. Situated within an oil field, this project aims to create an interior landscape that promotes a calm and sheltered experience. It is a compactt, triangular-plan building, shielded from external weather conditions, that utilizes void space to connect circulation paths and encourage social interaction.

In conceiving the project, we moved the balance towards the more human side: a building to watch the operation, the processes, the interactions, but also the sky, the adjacent vegetation, and the sunset. Our approach focuses on addressing the workers' basic needs, their ergonomics during long shifts, their visual, acoustic, lighting, and thermal comfort, their needs for recreation, socialization, and pause.

We thought of a structure that successfully exploited the features of the industrialization of manufacturing metallic materials, standardized and low-cost, while remaining in harmony with the site's aesthetic and logic. We also designed the roof-mounted solar panels to capture all the energy required for the building's operation.

With these “soft infrastructure”, we will forge a series of projects that are now in process of construction.
