DESCRIPTION

The Vulcanizadora is a project in Pescadito, Santa Marta, that begins from a popular and neighborhood resistance condition. The intervention is inserted in an intense neighborhood life, where the street is not only a border, but daily home, work, meeting, and conversation expansion.

The project is organized around a large shadow threshold that builds the relationship with the street. More than a closed front, it proposes a first contact zone: an open space, airy and available, capable of receiving activities for production, pedagogy and community. There appears the first block of the program, associated with the workshop for exchange and the forms of daily productivity.

Towards the interior, the home is developed as a sequence of intermediate spaces. A garden articulates the programs and allows for the domestic life, the work and the meeting to not be separated in a rigid way. The vegetation, shade, and ventilation build a more porous condition, where the project adapts to the climate and the intensity of tropical life.

In the back, a more social block is organized by levels and completes the inner life of the house. Three pieces of concrete define the primary image: an open, perforated and ventilated structure, between the popular, the tropical and some futuristic imagination. These elements build depth, allowing airflow and producing a façade that not only closes, but filters, breathes and accompanies the life of the place.
