«Relatos Patrimonio Cultural» Exhibition Gabriel García Marquez Cultural Center 2018

DESCRIPTION

Relatos del patrimonio is a traveling exhibition installation conceived to occupy spaces of connection and circulation. Its first iteration was installed at the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center, designed by Rogelio Salmona, and was later adapted to other contexts, including Medellín’s Biblioteca Pública Piloto.

The installation is structured around a geometric tension between a line and a circle. An interrupted circumference organizes the route and creates a piece that can be circled, crossed, and read from different points of view. Rather than enclosing the space, the installation proposes an open structure: a curved threshold that accompanies the movement of visitors and turns circulation itself into part of the exhibition experience.

The main piece is built as a timber truss that expresses volume, direction, and movement. Its upper section concentrates the structure, lighting, and suspended communication elements, including the exhibition title and primary signage. Below, a lightweight mesh supports the exhibition content, allowing two-dimensional pieces to be hung and viewed from both sides.

The furniture follows the same constructive logic. Tables, supports, and auxiliary elements are assembled from timber recovered from previous installations, giving the material a second life. The installation is composed of modular, demountable, and repeatable parts designed to facilitate transport, assembly, dismantling, and future itinerancies.
