«¡Suenan por Tí! El caso de la Asamblea del Valle» Gallery – Cali 2019

DESCRIPTION

The exhibition ¡Suenan por ti! is the third piece through which the National Center for Historical Memory has brought visibility to the complex history surrounding the 2002 kidnapping of the Valle del Cauca deputies by the FARC, the killing of a police subintendent and two journalists during the events, and the meaning of more than five years of captivity for the hostages, their families, and the country. It was a time when a humanitarian agreement seemed to be the only sensible way forward, and yet also the most distant.

The exhibition also reveals that the widely known outcome of this story, the shocking murder of the deputies, is not entirely an ending. Instead, it raises further questions about the moment in which we find ourselves today: with a guerrilla group that ultimately signed a peace agreement with the State, and a society facing the challenge of coming to terms with this new reality. This series of communicative works also includes the book The Case of the Valle Assembly: Tragedy and Reconciliation and the documentary series Somos más que 11 (We Are More Than 11)..

Suenan por ti is a tribute to the 15 victims whose lives were marked by this story: Carlos Alberto Cendales, Walter Lopez, Hector Sandoval, Juan Carlos Narváez, Ramiro Echeverry, Jairo Hoyos, Alberto Quintero, Rufino Varela, Nazianzus Orozco, Hector Fabio Arismendy, Edison Pérez, Francisco Giraldo, Carlos Alberto Barragan and Carlos Alberto Charry.
It is also a recognition of Sigifredo Lópezthe only deputy to survive the events, as well as of each of the families connected to this case. Through the images of their loved ones, images that remain constantly present, sustained by the vitality of love, they are able to remember them in the fullness of who they were: in their gravity and humor alike, and in the depth of everything they stood for in this life.
