DESCRIPTION

The traditional Valenzuela & Klenner Gallery, which operated for more than twenty years in the iconic Art Deco building on Carrera 5 in La Macarena, opposite Torres del Parque, is transformed through a series of progressive installations that update its uses without erasing the spatial memory of the place.

The intervention develops across three levels, combining functional adaptations with small-scale interior architectures. On the first level, an art shop is organized around a display system made of vertical supports, interchangeable boxes, and movable surfaces, capable of adapting to different formats of artworks, publications, and objects.

On the second level, a collective exhibition design introduces large-scale typographic elements that operate simultaneously as furniture, signage, and interchangeable devices within the route. These pieces activate circulation and establish a more flexible relationship between body, artwork, and architecture.

On the third level, two pavilions extend the exhibition experience toward the exterior. The first is a pergola-like structure, close to a greenhouse, that extends the project room into a large rear courtyard. Taking advantage of the level change across the site, this luminous structure prolongs the activity of the gallery and creates a transition between the house, the garden, and the city.

At the background, a second freestanding pavilion operates as a reflection on surface. It functions neither entirely as floor nor as wall, but as an inclined plane that constructs backdrop, circulation, and secrecy. The piece allows visitors to observe artworks, frame fragments of the house, and direct their gaze westward, where a broad view of the city opens up.

Rather than a single intervention, the project proposes a system of progressive structures that rehabilitate heritage through use, installation, and spatial activation. Each piece introduces a new way of occupying the gallery, expanding its possibilities as a place for exhibition, encounter, and experimentation.
