Casa-Pabellón 11 La Soledad 2018

Project Details

Pavilion-House 11 La Soledad 2018

DESCRIPTION

The project transforms the rooftop terrace of a 1950s building in the traditional La Soledad neighborhood of Bogotá. The proposal begins with a question about the potential of these elevated grounds: surfaces that are often residual, yet capable of becoming spaces for expansion, light, permanence, and new ways of inhabiting.

An existing timber structure on the roof is recovered and adapted to create a small freestanding pavilion, set back from the edges and open toward different orientations. Its position makes it possible to take advantage of natural light, expand views across the surroundings, and establish a more direct relationship between interior, terrace, and city.

The intervention works through precise acts of rehabilitation and adaptation: improving conditions of use, introducing new rooms, and expanding service areas without losing the lightness of the original structure. The existing timber becomes the main support for a more open, luminous, and flexible domestic architecture.

The project incorporates new furniture and colored surfaces that contrast with the timber structure, adding a contemporary layer to the existing building. Rather than a conventional extension, the proposal understands the terrace as an opportunity to activate a second life for the house: a domestic pavilion suspended between the material memory of the building and new ways of occupying it.
